Green Job Forum 2025: ASEAN Action Plan on Green Jobs and Sustainable Human Resource Development

The ASEAN Green Jobs Forum 2025 (AGJF) on 27-28 August 2025 in Putrajaya, Malaysia. The Forum organized by the Ministry of Human Resources (MOHR) Malaysia, with the support of the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) and the Australian Government through the Aus4ASEAN Future initiative. The ASEAN Employers Confederation (ACE) representative from VCCI (Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry) attended the forum.

The theme “AI, Digitalization and Green Jobs: Future-Ready Skills and Talent for ASEAN” to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) and digitalization can drive green job innovation, transform the workforce and prepare ASEAN talent for the green economy.

Remarks by Steven Sim Minister of Human Resources, Malaysia said: Malaysia aims to strengthen regional cooperation under its ASEAN 2025 chairmanship with the introduction of the ASEAN Framework and Action Plan for a just and inclusive transition towards Green Jobs 2025-2030.

In the context of the global supply chain enterprises are facing an urgent need to reshape their development strategies. Research reports from countries in the region and around the world show that green industrial parks have increased labor productivity from the application of high technology, improved working environment and attracted quality human resources.

In addition, the forum also clarified the application of sustainable development principles to recruitment practices, green industrial production; Analyzing the contradictions and potential for harmony between high growth targets and sustainable development requirements, countries will find a suitable balance to propose sustainable growth models, recruitment methods and specific and feasible green job selection for each industry in the new period. Promoting the connection between the Government, businesses, experts and international organizations to promote green industrial transformation in a practical and effective manner.

The Forum affirmed the view that the regional labor market influence development strategy that ensures high growth rates while complying with increasingly  sustainability standards, gathered speakers are presenting and discussing on the topics: ASEAN Policies and Initiatives for AI-driven Green Up-skilling; Industries as Key Drivers of AI-based Green Workforce Development; AI-Powered Workforce Training for a Green Economy; AI and Digital Transformation in Sustainable Supply Chains; Community Empowerment through Digital Inclusion and Green Job Training.

Therefore, green production, green jobs, green standards and creating a green ecosystem in ASEAN action plan.

Presentations by speakers at the forum

 In particular, the Forum redefining the concept of "sustainable development" according to a new approach that accepts the use of resources at an optimal, efficient and responsible level, linked to market mechanisms and creating room for long-term development. Therefore, Government- Employers - Workers and other Stakeholders are driving the region’s transition towards a green economy by concrete action is sustainable and responsible.
